Senior Minister: Dr. Matthew Mitchell spent most of his life in Georgia where he was Lead Pastor of Sugarloaf UMC. Matthew is the husband of Amber and father of four wonderful children. Matthew was born in Denver, Colorado but grew up in Lilburn, GA where he attended Parkview High School. After high school, Matthew enrolled in LaGrange College in LaGrange, GA where he was the first four-year Letterman of the nationally ranked LaGrange College Men’s Golf Team. While at LaGrange, he earned a Bachelors in Business Administration with a management concentration and minor in Latin American Studies. For seminary, Matthew attended the Candler School of Theology at Emory University and finished up his schooling with a Doctorate of Ministry from Columbia Theological Seminary.
Executive Minister: Rev. Randy Shrauner, Church of the Servant’s Executive Minister, was ordained an Elder in the United Methodist Church in 2008. Born and raised on his family’s farm and ranching operation in Southwest Kansas, Randy invested 20 years following his graduation from Oklahoma State University directing the business. Leaving the ranch behind, he entered Asbury Theological Seminary in the fall of 2001, earning a Master of Divinity in May of 2005. Rev. Shrauner is married, and the Shrauners have 4 grown children.
Theologian in Residence: Stephen Gunter returned to ministry at Church of the Servant in September, 2017, as “Theologian in Residence” after more than 2 decades at Emory University and Duke Divinity School – where he served as Research Professor and Associate Dean for Methodist Studies. He has lectured and preached in more than 25 world areas, while remaining active in his annual conference as an ordained Methodist clergy. His most recent book, Arminius and His ‘Declaration of Sentiments’ (Baylor University Press) was recently translated into Portuguese this Summer, and Dr. Gunter conducted a 12-day book tour in Brazil in August, 2017. Matt has a passion for finding new people in the community to engage in the local church. Matt is currently serving as a Path 1 Church Planting Resident and will be preparing to plant a new United Methodist Church in 2-3 years. Matt helps coordinate the modern worship services at Church of the Servant and also coordinates Hospitality Ministries.
Matt grew up in northeastern Oklahoma in Claremore and received a call to ministry as a senior at Claremore High School in 2010. After graduation, Matt began attending Oklahoma City University where he graduated in 2015 with a B.A. in Religion. While in college, Matt began vocational ministry. For four years from 2011-2015, he served at Acts 2 United Methodist Church in Edmond as a youth minister. Acts 2 was a church plant and Matt garnered valuable experience for recognizing healthy church patterns and developing effective evangelism. After graduating from Oklahoma City University, Matt desired to begin pastoral ministry, so he chose to stay in Oklahoma for Seminary. Matt was selected as a Fellow at St. Paul School of Theology, where he graduated with his Masters of Divinity degree in 2018. While in seminary, Matt served in his first appointment as a pastor at Nichols Hills United Methodist Church. In June 2018, Matt began his new appointment at Church of the Servant where he is excited to help grow Servant and prepare for a new church plant.
In his free time, Matt enjoys hiking, fishing and most things related to the outdoors. Matt has a personal goal of visiting all 59 national parks and has 47 left to go! Matt also enjoys being with his friends in Oklahoma City and enjoying all things pop culture including movies, TV and a plethora of video games.
Associate Minister of Care & Support: Rev. Tim Travers was born and raised in Nebraska, the youngest of 6 children. He attended college at Nebraska Wesleyan University from 1985 to 1989, where he majored in Religion and had minors in Psychology and Sociology/Anthropology. Tim attended seminary from 1990 to 1993 at Iliff School of Theology in Denver, CO, where he earned his Master of Divinity degree. He served churches of various sizes in full-time ministry from 1993-2003 in the Nebraska Annual Conference. He then transferred to the Oklahoma Annual Conference in 2003. He served as the Minister of Congregational Development at Church of the Servant from 2003 to the fall of 2009. Tim is now serving as the Minister of Congregational Care. He is married, and they have 2 children.
