HANGING OF THE GREENS
Sunday, November 24, 2-5 PM
I invite you to join us for the Hanging of the Greens on Sunday, November 24, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. We need your help fluffing trees, stringing lights, and placing various other decorations...
To help us organize this joyful event, please register at the information tables on Sunday or register online at ServantOKC.org/events. Together, we will decorate our church in preparation for the upcoming Advent season. Bring a treat to share, and we will conclude our time at 4:30 in the Celebration Center with a small service of song, prayer for the upcoming season, and a reminder of the meaning behind all our decorations!
This is a wonderful opportunity to come together as a church family and create a warm and festive atmosphere that reflects the spirit of the season. Your participation will make a significant difference, and I look forward to seeing many of you there!
Blessings,
Eric Nance
Director of Facilities
Hanging of the Greens for Children
The children are invited to help decorate the church on Sunday, November 24, from 2:00-5:00 PM, AND they will make their very own Chrismons! Sunday morning, during the 10:00 worship service, children will make Chrismons to hang on the church Christmas trees, and at the Hanging of the Greens (2:00-5:00 PM), the children will make Chrismons to take home! We will learn what the Chrismons mean and how they help us to celebrate this special season! We hope you can join us! Please register at ServantOKC.org/events.
BLUE CHRISTMAS
Sunday, December 1, 12:30 PM
For many, Christmas is not ‘The Most Wonderful Time of the Year’ (as the song goes). A Blue Christmas service can offer some healing and hope. The idea behind the Blue Christmas service is to create space for the acknowledgment of the heaviness often carried during this season, as well as offering the hope that Jesus gives.
Our society has become one of masking emotions that are sometimes considered negative. The Bible clearly acknowledges, celebrates, and makes space for pain, struggle, hardship, and tears – and so should we. In fact, science, too, is catching up to the Bible, as recent studies confirm that the “claim-your-happiness” pop psychology isn’t healthy for us physically, socially, or spiritually – and that putting on a smile without making space for the tough stuff of life actually leads to more (and deeper) unhappiness. This Blue Christmas service is a beautiful way to make space during the Advent season for those suffering any kind of loss – whether the loss of a person, a dream, finances, stability, health, or more.
We will offer a Blue Christmas service on December 1, 2024 at 12:30 PM in the Chapel of the Cross. There will be a way that you can decorate the Remembrance Tree, and remember that your loss is still with you in the season, and how we might remember, and still be ok to celebrate the season.
A MOMENT AT THE MANGER
Sunday, December 15, 5-7 PM
Join us for a magical night under the stars with a LIVE nativity and narration of the great story of the birth of Jesus! Enjoy Christmas carols, camels, cookies & cocoa, and more! Admission is FREE and open to all ages.
WE NEED YOUR HELP! Just like any great event, it’s only as good as its volunteers. We need setup and clean-up crew, carolers (choir), cast for the nativity, greeters, and people to pass out cookies and cocoa. We will be set up on the south lawn, and we will work in shifts so we can step inside to warm up between shifts. If you are available to help with this wonderful night, please register HERE.
CHRISTMAS GRACE
Christmas Grace has been a Church of the Servant tradition for over 20 years! Each year, we work with community agencies that have identified local families needing a little extra love and care at Christmas.
Christmas Grace has placed all of our client requests with sponsors and will now accept gifts at our table on Sunday mornings. Please tag the gifts and bag them in the clear trash bag provided. Apply the labels attached to your form and return it to us any Sunday morning. Please plan to turn them in by December 8th; the agencies have appointments to pick them up on Monday, December 9th.
Thank you all for your help in providing a special Christmas surprise for these agencies and their clients.
ATTENDANCE:
Please take a moment to fill out the blue attendance pad located at the end of each pew. You can also use the Self Check-in that is now available in the Digital Bulletin.
