As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.
Proverbs 27:17
At Church of the Servant, we believe that becoming a fully-committed follower of Christ involves more than simply coming to worship each week. It is a three-fold process that involves worship, service, and small group experiences. One way of becoming involved in a small group is by joining in one of the several Bible and book studies that are being offered each fall and spring. Consider becoming a part of one of these classes and you will enjoy great teaching, discussion, and prayer while building friendships that enrich your life. SOAPY
Below is a pattern for daily Bible Study. It is called “SOAPY,” using the first letter in the five steps. Daily texts can be found online or by using a daily reading guide. You will need a Bible and some form of journal. Spiral notebooks, three ring notebooks or bound journals work well. Begin with a prayer, opening your heart to God.
S - SCRIPTURE: Read the scripture passage aloud. Then, write the scripture in your journal. If it is long, write out the parts that are significant to you. Reading and writing the passage will help put the scripture in your mind and heart.
O - OBSERVATION: What do you notice about the passage? What is happening? What might the passage tell you about the nature of God or the person of Jesus Christ? What truths can you glean about yourself? What might God like to teach you through this scripture? Write your thoughts.
A - APPLICATION: Ask “How does this scripture apply to my life?” Look for promises in which to take comfort, attitudes to change, challenges to accept, sins to confess, commands to obey, actions to take, examples to follow, or skills to learn. Write in your journal how the scripture applies to your own life. Be specific.
P - PRAYER: Write a prayer to God. The prayer might be one of praise and thanksgiving, a prayer asking God to help you apply the teaching to your life, a prayer of confession or a prayer of release.
Y - YIELDING: Ask “What in my life must I yield to God?” This is a question that leads to obedience. Every day, through this Bible study, you will have the opportunity to yield a little more of your life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

"The Power of God Within You"
Led by Rev. Dr. Thomas Hoffman
Wednesdays, 6:30-7:30 PM | Starts September 13, 2023
For several weeks now, our pastors have closed Sunday services with a blessing from Ephesians 3:20-21. Part of this passage reads, ". . . according to God's power that is at work within us. . ." Wait a minute! God's power is within us? Is this possible? How can we frail, human beings contain this kind of power? And if we do, how should this impact our lives?
Join Pastor Thomas each Wednesday evening in September and October, 6:30-7:30 p.m., for a Bible study on the immeasurable power of God. Together we'll examine the kind of power it took to create the universe and raise someone from the dead--and how that very same power might be sitting inside of you and me, just waiting to ignite.
